Mahua Roychowdhury Top Films As Second Lead

 In Bengal film industry it is said that so far as actresses are concerned there two eras - one is Sabitri Chottopadhyay era and after that Mahua Roychowdhury era. Both are known for natural spontaneous acting in films. Many film critics find similarities in their acting. Mahua and Sabitri Chatterjee acted in many Bengali films and few of the films are listed below.

Before Dadar Kirti, Mahua was getting mostly second lead roles in Bengali films. During that stage of her career, film industry realised that a new actress has entered in Bengali film industry and in near future she will rule the industry.

Most interesting is that Mahua worked with Uttam Kumar and Sabitri Chatterjee in most of her initial stage films.

Plot

This film is based on famous novel of Ramapada Chowdhury 'Je Jekhane Danriye'.

Mahua Roychowdhury played a role of a girl of strong spine. Sharing screen with Uttam Kumar at such a tender age was not easy but Mahua was excellent in this movie.

Story of the film

Bhabesh Banerjee is a corrupt and loose character. He lives in Ranipur, involved with unauthorised business, smuggling and immoral trafficking. His son Rajesh is an honest man who loves Dolon. Bhabesh cheated Dolon's father using counterfeit documents. When Rajesh comes to visit his father, Bhabesh gifts all his properties to Rajesh for getting political mileage and enters into politics. Bhabesh's second wife Bibha knows the whole plot and reveals it to Rajesh. When police come to arrest Bhabesh, he(Bhabesh) commits suicide.

Sei Chokh (1976)


Sei Chokh is a Bengali romantic drama film directed by Salil Dutta based on a story on Bengali novelist Bimal Mitra. The film was released 30 July 1976. Nachiketa Ghosh was the music director of Sei Chokh.

Plot

Nabakrishna's uncle Prankrishna bring back him to their home from a mental home. Before that Nabakrishna lives a bindas life, always developed relationship with women and being kind hearted he always gifted them. His uncle and aunt tries to impose restrictions on his life style but he never change himself. He soon escapes with his servant Bipul. They don't have any place to stay hence Nabakrishna goes to Mrs. Nandi's home. Nita, Mrs. Nandi's niece is a simple girl who loved Amal against her aunts will, but Mrs. Nandi plans to separate them and fixes Nita's marriage with Nabakrishna. Hearing the news of the marriage another lady Malati rushes to cancel the marriage because she was Nabakrishna's ex lover. By this time Nita's lover Amal also returns. Finally Nita gets her lover and Nabakrishna realises the need of change in his life according to his age.

Sabitri and Uttam Kumar are excellent in this film but Mahua Roychowdhury proved her talent in this film. She shared the screen with Sabitri and Uttam Kumar successfully.

Film is based on Rabindranath Thakur's drama 'Sesh Raksha'. Mahua, Sabitri and Sumitra are three friends and they are united against the male characters in the film. Mahua Roychoudhury and Sabitri Chatterjee duel in this film is worth seeing. In 2-3 scenes where Mahua is teaching tricks to Sabitri to control her husband are really fantastic.  Throughout the film, Mahua is spontaneous and natural. Both Sabitri Chatterjee and Mahua Roychowdhury are famous for natural acting and in this film, jugolbondi of the two is outstanding.
