Story of the film

Arati, a middle-class woman from Kolkata, takes her first job because of increasing financial pressure. However, her husband slowly grows insecure about her growing success.

when Subrata’s bank closes down and he loses his job, he is as wracked by guilt as he is by suspicion and jealousy – particularly when he finds a tube of lipstick in Arti’s handbag and when he sees her boss dropping her home in his car. But he cannot stop her, because of the precarious financial position at home. Mahanagar epitomises this predicament in a very simple and touching manner.

Story of the film

Amitabha Roy (Soumitra Chatterjee) is a Calcutta-based scriptwriter who is driving around in the country to collect material for a film. His vehicle breaks down in a small town. A tea planter, Bimal Gupta (Haradhan Bandopadhyay), offers hospitality for the night. Amitabha is forced to accept the offer as he has no alternative.

At Gupta's house, he is introduced to his wife Karuna (Madhabi Mukherjee). Karuna is the girl he once loved and had let down. Unaware of their past relationship, Gupta entertains Amitabha. 

Amitabha feels uneasy around Karuna and is unable to sleep. He asks for sleeping pills from Karuna, and manages to steal a few moments alone with Karuna. He communicates his love to her and asks her to leave her husband. Karuna refuses to answer his inquiries as to whether she is happy in her marriage. Unable to regain the old intimacy with her, he remembers his betrayal. It was the last time he saw her. Forced by her uncle who did not approve of the relationship and wanted to send her away, she came to him. Even though he was a poor student, she had made up her mind to accept his situation and surrender her comfortable life, educational plans and family relationships all to marry him. He, however, proved to be a coward, unwilling to make such a commitment. Now that he is a successful man, Amitabha asks Karuna to leave her husband for him.

The next morning, Amitabha decides to take the train instead of waiting for his vehicle to be repaired. He writes a note to Karuna, requesting her to meet him at the railway station if she still cared for him.

Amitabha waits for Karuna at the station. Karuna does come, but just to take back the sleeping pills Amitabha had borrowed.

Story of the film

Subarnarekha deals with the aftermath of the Partition of India in 1947 and the refugees. The film tells the story of Ishwar Chakraborty (Abhi Bhattacharya), a Hindu refugee from East Pakistan who goes to West Bengal with his little sister Sita (Indrani Chakrabarty) where he tries to start a new life. In a refugee camp, they see the abduction of a low-caste woman and Ishwar takes her little son Abhiram (Sriman Tarun) with him. He gets a job at a factory in the province, near the river Subarnarekha. The lives of the three souls changes drastically as they are left to face a life filled with devastating odds.

Story of the film

Shibkali a simple village of Bengal where Debu Pundit lived with his family. He was respected by all and everyone used to take his suggestion regarding their daily problems. In that same village, Srihari Pal a cruel, mean minded man lived with his property. Srihari had a dream of engulfing the whole property of the poor farmers. In different occasions, Srihari used his money and muscles to achieve his goal. In such a condition, Debu Pundit tried his level best to catch the conspiracy of Srihari, but he failed. As a result, Debu has to go to jail in some false allegation. In the mean, time Srihari increased his power and wealth in many folds. He became one of the most important persons of Shibkali. After few years, Debu came back to his own village and developed a well-planned movement to change the condition of the village. Later Debu Pundit became successful in his mission.

Story of the film

tragic story of a talented young footballer (Tapas Pal) who despite being a poor student exhibits his superb talent as a player. While almost all the family members, except his sister-in-law, would not back the young man, Saheb follows his passion and finally called up for the national team. Sadly, before he could leave for Delhi, he discovers his family needs money for his sister’s marriage and plans to arrange the money by sacrificing his career.

Madhabi plays the role of sister-in-law and she is excellent in this character.

Story of the film

This is a family drama which is portrayed on a background of Durgapuja. The story is about a cultured Bengali family, different members of which have gathered in native house on the occasion of Durga puja. Bhagbati (Madhabi Mukherjee) has four children; two sons Asit (Pradip Mukherjee), Nishit (Bodhisattva Mazumdar) and two daughters, Parul (Mamata Shankar) and Keya (Rituparna Sengupta). It is the festival time and all the children are at the main house to celebrate the festival. Meanwhile, Shishir, (Deepankar De) a relative who is also a big real estate agent, is interested in buying the house. Most of the family members want to sell the house. The old and traditional house is not a place for everyone's interest and they have individual problems to solve with money. None of the sisters are looking forward to the family reunion as they all are more concerned about their own problems.

Story of the film
