November 14, 2020: Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition worsens
November 13, 2020: Condition of Soumitra Chatterjee is not good. Suddenly his condition has deteriorated.
“The situation is not that good. His condition has deteriorated. The neurological condition is the worst since his admission. The GCS count is around five. An EEG examination showed very little activity in the brain. There were no convulsions though. His heartbeat rate was very high but it has now been controlled. His blood pressure was also high. For the first time his oxygen requirement has gone up,” said Dr Arindam Kar, head of the team of doctors treating Chatterjee.
“Chatterjee’s kidney functions are not good and he is on dialysis. The coagulation function is the only good part in this entire scenario. But overall it seems that the situation will not be good in the coming 24 hours. For the first time we are expecting an unfavourable outcome. We are giving our best but it seems our best may not be adequate for the recovery of Chatterjee,” said Dr Kar.
November 07, 2020: Soumitra Chatterjee is responding still he is in critical condition. Soumitra is still on the ventilator and was yet to regain consciousness.
November 02, 2020: Condition of the actor has deteriorated again. Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee was given blood transfusion on Sunday after his haemoglobin count fluctuated as his condition remained critical.
October 30, 2020: The legendary actor opening his eyes and blood pressure is under control. Soumitra Chatterjee is still in ventilation but no fever. Hope everything is moving in positive direction.
October 29, 2020: Sign of improvement is observed. Second dialysis done on October 29.
October 28, 2020: Soumitra Chatterjee's condition remains the same. The doctors are now struggling with new challenges of 'secondary infections' and its repercussions.
October 25, 2020: Soumitra Chatterjee is not responding to treatment, according to doctors. Doctors said that condition of the actor is very critical.
October 15, 2020: Good News!!! Soumitra Chatterjee tests corona virus negative. His condition has also improved. The legendary actor is still in an “acute confusional state.” However, the doctors added that he is responding to verbal commands and is opening his eyes at times.
October 14, 2020: Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee continued to remain in a critical state on Tuesday even though his neurological status marginally improved.
“Confused, restless, mild agitation, arousable, GCS-E3M5V2, involuntary limb movements but no focal or generalised seizures event occured, no focal neuro deficit. Marginal improvement in neurological status,” read the medical bulletin
October 13, 2020: Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee is critical and has been put on ventilation. As per the latest reports, he has been on BiPap ventilation. CM Mamata Banerjee may go to Bellevue Hospital today.
October 12, 2020: The health condition of iconic Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee marginally improved on Sunday and he no longer needs oxygen support.
Chatterjee was given plasma therapy twice on Saturday and the octogenarian also underwent a CT scan, he said.
October 6, 2020: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee is found Corona positive and he is admitted to Bellevue Hospital. As per report from hospital authority, condition of the legendary actor is stable.
Soumitra Chatterjee is sick since few days and he was advised for Corona test. The report of the test came positive. Shooting at Tollywood started with all precautions and Soumitra Chatterjee also started working.
Soumitra was born in Surya Sen Street, Kolkata in 1935. The first ten years of his early life past in Krishnanagar in the district of Nadia in West Bengal.
Soumitra Chatterjee studied in the Howrah Zilla School and Calcutta during his early years. Soumitra graduated from the City College, Kolkata with honours in Bengali literature, as a graduating student of the University of Calcutta. He studied for his M.A. in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. While still a student, he learnt acting under noted actor-director of Bengali theatre Ahindra Choudhury.

Soumitra started his career working in All India Radio as an announcer and started pursuing a career in films. He came in touch with Ray during the casting for Aparajito (1956). The rest is history.
