Debraj Sinha's recent released film Akarshan has a complex portrayal of woman life. Rituparna Sengupta plays the role of Tora Chatterjee, private secretary of Sayak in a MNC. Samadarshi Dutta is Sayak in film Akarshan.

The story of the film Akarshan revolves around Tora and Sayak. Sayak is happily married with beautiful wife and a child. There is a fatal attraction between Sayak and Tora. Their romantic relationship comes to an end due to office politics.

Tora starts recapping the past events. In this stage of the film Rituparna Sengupta has shown excellent performance. Tora wonders whether it was lust that had driven Sayak towards her. Tora feels exploited and start feeling like a victim. Tora ultimately gets emotionally drained.

This is the tragedy of our society. In male dominated society the girls suffer the most. Male normally takes no responsibility in such situation and it is the female who has to face all criticisms. In case of divorce, we normally blame the female without knowing the actual reason. In case of any illegitimate love, the female becomes the target as it she has dragged the male towards her. Rituparna Sengupta has portrayed this reality very successfully in film Akarshan.
