Tamil film Kochadaiyaan is based on the story of a 8th century Pandiya King, Kochadaiyaan Ranadhiran.  The film Kochadaiyaan is the directorial debut of the Indian cinema superstar Rajnikanth’s daughter Soundarya R Ashwin. Rajnikanth and Deepika Padukone are in the main lead roles of the film Kochadaiyaan. Rajnikanth will be seen in two roles in the film Kochadaiyaan. The film will be dubbed and released in other languages also – Telegu, Malayalam, English and Hindi.

Story of the film Kochadaiyaan is based on three kings - played by Rajinikanth, Jackie Shroff and Nassar.Rajinikanth is playing the role of two characters - father and son. This is a film of war between the kings of different generations – father role of Rajnikanth fights with Jackie Shroff. Son role of Rajnikanth fights with Jackie’s son.
