Chhatrak, Bengali version of the film Mushrooms have already created controversy over the bold scene of Bengali actress Paoli Dam in this film. Bengal film industry was divided over the necessary of those bold scenes in the film. Eminent film makers like Rituparno Ghosh, Anjan Dutta supports actress Paoli Dam for her courage to do such a bold scene and finds nothing wrong in doing such scene if the film needs it. Another busy film maker in Bengal film industry Haranath Chakraborty finds no justification of such bed scenes. The film Chhatrak was screened in Cannes Film Festival. Chhatrak may be a landmark in Bengali films but Paoli Dam is definitely facing problems for her bold scenes in this film. Release date of the film Chhatrak in West Bengal is not yet decided.
Story of the film Chhatrak
The story of Chhatrak is based on the loneliness of a lady whose boyfriend has gone outside the country for better career opportunities leaving the lady alone. Bengali actress Paoli Dam is in the lead role of the film and Sudip Mukherjee plays the role of boyfriend of Paoli Dam. Sudip went to Dubai in search of better career. Due to the absence of her boyfriend, Paoli Dam felt attraction towards another man, role played by Anubrata in Chhatrak. They come closer which involves them in physical intimacy. The controversial bold scenes are in this part of the film. At the end of the film, Sudip returns to country and again united with Paoli Dam.
In our traditional sentiment we want to see women in so called ‘clean’ image. We want to see sacrifices from them as if they can not have any desire or demand. This is the main problem with us and due to this mentality there are so much controversies over the film Chhatrak.
