Agnidev Chatterjee is making Bengali movie Charulata 2011. The name of the movie has no relation with the story of Satyajit Ray’s Charulata.  On the contrary the story of the movie has similarity with the story of another Bengali movie of 80’s, Paroma, directed by Aparna Sen.

 Story of the Bengali movie Charulata 2011

  The story of Charulata 2011 is based on the life of a lonely woman. The lady, Chaiti is childless. Rituparna Sengupta has portrayed the role of Chaiti in the Bengali movie Charulata 2011. Chaiti has everything; so far materialistic matters are concerned. Her husband Bikram has fulfilled all the requirements of Chaiti excepting love and affection. Bikram is so busy with his work that he has no time for his wife Chaiti. Chaiti feels loneliness and this loneliness leads her to open account in social network side, Facebook. In facebook, she finds Sanjoy. In the beginning they used to chat and Chaiti finds it interesting as someone else is at least concerned about her. Gradually their relationship grows and they meet each other. Chaiti and Sanjoy developed physical and emotional relationship.

Same type of story was in Paroma, directed by Aparna Sen. Workaholic husband Dipankar Dey had no time for her wife Rakhee. Ultimately Rakhee developed a relationship with Mukul Sharma. In Paroma, Aparna Sen had a small role, a journalist. When Rakee came to Aparna and asked whether the relation between her and Mukul is right or wrong, Aparna answered that there is nothing wrong in having relationship with someone else other than husband specially when the husband had no time to spare for his wife. In that time, in the 80’s, audiences were not so matured to accept this story of Paroma. Many criticized that in our Bengali culture, this type of movie cannot do anything better.
