Singing career of Bengali playback singer Kumar Sanu
During the early 80’s, Kumar Sanu was a known name in Kolkata who used to sing songs in local functions and restaurants. Bengali playback singer Kumar Sanu’s first break was through great gazal singer Jagjit Singh but Kumar Sanu became a household name of music lovers after he sang songs in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Aashiqui. In his last 20 years of singing career, Bengali playback singer Kumar Sanu has sung with all leading music directors in India. Due to unknown reasons, Kumar Sanu is not singing any Hindi film songs in recent years.

In 1990, Bengali playback singer Kumar Sanu sang the songs in Hindi film Aashiqui. The songs were ‘Ab Tere Bin Jeelenge Hum’, ‘Nazar Ke Saamne Jigar’, ‘Ek Sanam Chahiye’, ‘Tu Meri Zindagi Hai’ and ‘Main Duniya Bhula Dunga’. The songs were either solo or duet song with Anuradha Paudwal. Aashiqui was a super hit film in that year and the songs were also super hit. After the release of Aashiqui, Bollywood film industry got a great singer who dominated the industry for a long time. In the same year, Kumar Sanu sang songs in another Mahesh Bhatt film Sadak. The songs were ‘Tumhein Apna Banane Ki Kasam’, ‘Mohabbat Ki Hai Tumhare Liye’ and ‘Jab Jab Pyar Pe Pehra’.During this period, Kumar Sanu sang most of his duet songs with either Anuradga Paudwal or Alka Yagnik. In 1992, Kumar Sanu sang ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen’ and ‘Baazigar O Baazigar’. Both the songs were super hit.
