Biman Mukhopadhyay, the noted singer and trainer was born in September 1930. Biman Mukhopadhyay is a man who has dedicated his life for the betterment of Bengali songs.
His ancestral residence was at Khardah, North 24 Parganas. His father was Late Subol Chandra Mukhopadhyay and mother Late Nivanani Mukhopadhyay.
Education of Sri Biman Mukhopadhyay
Biman Mukhopadhyay started his education at local primary school and after that he was admitted in A V School. Shyambazar, Kolkata. In 1949 Biman Mukhopadhyay passed Matriculation Examination. After Matriculation he studied in famous Scottish Church College.
Biman Mukhopadhyay's first guru in music is his father. Biman Mukhopadhyay learned vocal music from his father. He took lessons from Late Subol Dasgupta and Late Kamal Dasgupta also. Biman Mukhopadhyay took training on Classical Songs from Late Satyen Ghosal.
Music career of Biman Mukhopadhyay
Biman Mukhopadhyay's first song broadcasted in All India Radio was in the year 1954-'Oi Sab Jyotsna Hase Akase’. The most interesting is that this song was written and composed by Biman Mukhopadhyay himself.
Biman Mukhopadhyay's first recording in HMV was done in 1955. Biman Mukhopadhyay joined HMV in the year 1954-55 as a Trainer and trained many famous singers for the purpose of recording. Regarding songs he has very clear cut thinking. Biman Mukhopadhyay thinks that there will be good songs and bad songs. Good songs are ever lasting. Importance of such songs never decreases. Some songs may be very popular for a short time but ultimately people remember only good songs.
Biman Mukhopadhyay is often called as 'Living Encyclopedia of Music'.
Teaching of vocal songs started in his Sovabazar House since 1950. Many present generation singers are his student. Many famous singers of Bengali songs like Smt. Angur Bala, Smt. Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Manabendra Mukhopadhyay, Smt. Purabi Dutta, Smt. Indrani Sen, Smt. Haimanti Sukla, Smt. Sipra Basu have recorded their songs under his training.

Harmonica Sangeet Samman given by Inovative Systems Ltd. in 2007 for his Life Time Achievements.
Uttam Kumar Award given by Shilpi Sansad in 2008.
Biman Mukhopadhyay passed away on Wednesday, 16 May 2011. He was 81 years old.
